Orientation:

When looking for a good school for your child, it's important to know where your child will be placed. To make sure you're making the right choice, it's important to get well-informed. We hold informational sessions multiple times per year where you can learn about our education. The best time to do this is before your child turns 3 years old.

Under the 'Tour' section, you can find the dates of the informational sessions.

Starting Primary School:

In the Netherlands, a child can start primary school when they are 4 years old. Enrollment in our primary school can take place in the quarter that your child turns 3 years old. Starting from October 1, 2021, enrollment is done centrally. For more information, you can visit: https://naardebasisschool.utrecht.nl

Almost all primary schools in Utrecht and the municipality of Utrecht have agreed upon a new enrollment method. Parents can choose any school in Utrecht for their child. The available spots are distributed in the same way. This way, all children in Utrecht have an equal chance to attend the school of their choice. Parents quickly know which school has available spots. Schools know which child will be joining them in time. All children have an equal chance, in an equal situation, to attend their preferred school.

Note: Siblings also need to be enrolled through this system. They can no longer claim a spot after the lottery.

Child born between Enrollment until Lottery Number of available spots
Q1: January 1 and March 31 March 31 April 7 14
Q2: April 1 and June 30 June 30 July 7 15
Q3: July 1 and September 30 September 30 October 7 15
Q4: October 1 and December 31 December 31 January 7 14

Enrollment:

The enrollment procedure falls under the Primary Education Act (WPO).

To be admitted to primary school, your child must be four years old. De Groene Alm is open to every child from 4 years old, whose parents respect the school's principles and objectives and who live in the school's vicinity.

In the quarter your child turns three years old, you can enroll your child at our school using the form at: https://naardebasisschool.utrecht.nl

Spots are distributed once every quarter for all children born in the same quarter. The exact timing of enrollment within the quarter doesn't matter.

We anticipate that there will be more demand for spots than we can provide. After each quarter, you will receive an offer for a spot through the municipality. It's important to confirm that spot with us within the given timeframe.

If there are spots available after that, the remaining applications will be considered. If necessary, a lottery will be held. This lottery is organized citywide in Utrecht. If your child didn't get a spot at our school, the citywide enrollment process will automatically place your child at your 2nd, 3rd, or subsequent preferred school that has available spots. After the quarter, you will be informed through the citywide enrollment process if our school has a spot for you. Confirming that spot within the given timeframe is important.

Admission and Enrollment of Your Child:

When you confirm the spot for your child, we will ask for additional information about your child. Further research may be conducted, and data may be requested from preschool or daycare. The principal will then make a decision about the admission. You will receive notice within 6 weeks. If there are specific matters that require a more personal conversation, we expect you to arrange an appointment with the school leadership.

Our school has a duty of care: for an enrolled student with extra support needs, we will investigate if appropriate support is possible. If it's not feasible, we will work with you to find a suitable place at another school. The decision regarding admission and removal of students lies with the competent authority.

Informational Sessions:

In the 2023-2024 school year, there will be an informational session every quarter:

During these sessions, you will receive a (digital) presentation and a tour of the school. Citywide agreements have been made regarding the enrollment of your child. You can sign up for a session.

Inclusive Education for Students with Additional Needs:

We aim to provide each child with the education they require. If there is a suspicion that your child needs extra support, we will discuss this with you. It's important to assess whether our school can provide the necessary help. Further investigation might be needed, and data may be requested from preschool or daycare. Based on these findings, the school principal will decide on admission. If we cannot meet the educational needs, and we are the first-choice school, we will work with you to find suitable education for your child.

Admission:

The principal will make the decision on admission as soon as possible, but no later than 6 weeks after your written application. You will be notified in writing (via email) about your child's admission.

We appreciate it if you let us know when you plan to attend. You can easily sign up for the upcoming sessions by filling out the form under guided tour.
